After the completion of formal accounting qualifications in 1973, Phillip joined the Village Roadshow Group where he spent six years in various accounting, internal audit and film production positions through their film production arm Hexagon Films Pty Ltd.
In 1981 Phillip joined the Michael Edgley Group to take up a management role for their production of the feature film "Phar Lap". With the completion of the film in 1982 Phillip remained with the group as a company director and group financial controller, the role he still holds in the group today. Phillip also oversees the venue management interests of the group and as a director of Arena Management Pty Ltd and Sportstar Pty Ltd and has been closely involved with the management of The Sydney Entertainment Centre, The Capitol Theatre Sydney, the Brisbane Entertainment Centre and as from August 1999, Luna Park, Sydney.
