At the age of 14, he joined the entertainment industry as a child actor, creating the role of the Artful Dodger in the first Australian production of Oliver in 1961. For several years, he both went to school and continued his acting career, appearing in musicals, plays and on television for J C Williamsons, Garnet H Carroll Productions, the Melbourne Theatre Company, the ABC and the Nine Network.

On leaving school, he took up full time employment with Garnet H Carroll Productions as a Management Trainee at the Princess Theatre in Melbourne, there gaining an interest and practical education in the administration of commercial theatre.

In 1967, the then head of the Edgley Company, Eric Edgley, asked Andrew to join their expanding company. Andrew has remained with Edgleys since that time

His areas of responsibility have Andrew Guild involved in an extraordinarily wide range of fields within the commercial theatrical industry in Australia (as well as in New Zealand and Asia).

Early on his association with the Edgley group, Andrew was given the responsibility of managing the companys relationship with the Ministry of Culture in Russia. There has hardly been one Russian show that has visited Australia in the past 35 years that has not had Andrew Guild as Executive Producer. In the course of his dealings between the Russian cultural bodies and those in Australia, Andrew taught himself to speak the Russian language, which further added to his recognised ability to build the cultural bridges between Russia and Australia.

During the depth of the Cold War, Andrew made countless journeys to Russia and other Eastern Bloc countries, procuring product such as the Great Moscow Circus, The Bolshoi Ballet and numerous Folk Dance Ensembles.

Such attractions as Marcel Marceau, Torvill and Dean, Ballet tours by Fonteyn, Nureyev and Baryshnikov have also been firmly within his area of responsibility over the long period of his involvement in the entertainment industry.

These groups were then toured extensively throughout the Australian theatre circuit.

Andrew is known to several generations of theatre owners, managers and marketers and now acts as mentor to many of the new generation of producers.

In recent years he has been responsible for such landmark tours as The Royal Ballet and Cirque du Soleil.

He is a past director of the Australian Dance Theatre and currently serves on the Board of The National Institute of Circus Arts.
